Sewing workshops

A trade, an income, restored dignity for vulnerable young girls.

Bujumbura Mairie & Rural Ongoing Young girls & young women Program: Entrepreneurship
Concept note

Why this project matters.

Our sewing workshops train dozens of young girls each year in a concrete trade. After a supervised apprenticeship cycle, graduates receive a starter kit and entrepreneurship support to launch their own activity.

The context

Three persistent challenges on the ground.

01

No qualifications

Many young girls leave school without qualifications or job prospects.

02

Cycle of dependence

The absence of their own income weakens their standing and decision-making power.

03

Lack of tools

Even once trained, they struggle to finance the machines and raw materials needed to start.
